The collaboration of Kurt Rosenwinkel with the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos (OJM) began in 2008 and gave rise to the edition of a joint album, “Our Secret World” (2010), and a series of concerts in Portugal, Spain and the USA. The guitarist reunited with OJM for another concert in 2015, which included new arrangements of Carlos Azevedo, Pedro Guedes and Ohad Talmor.
Kurt Rosenwinkel is one of the most solid references of modern jazz. The style of this guitarist from Philadelphia is - and always was - easily identifiable, and his voice, of a unique timbre, is part of his discrete identity. Since the first recordings that his sound is characterized by an absence of prejudice against musical genres and its composition expresses a profound innovation and openness to the possibilities of contemporary music. Throughout his career of more than 25 years and with ten albums as a leader, Rosenwinkel has collaborated with musicians, such as Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, and jazz veterans, such as Joe Henderson, Paul Motian and Gary Burton.
In April 2015, in one of the most recent Rosenwinkel concerts with OJM, several arrangements of Carlos Azevedo, Pedro Guedes and Ohad Talmor were recovered for the album “Our Secret World” (the first of Rosenwinkel with a big band) and a series of original compositions present in multiple albums of the guitarist were also included, such as “Heartcore” (2003) and “The Next Step” (2001), where a sound similar to the live performance of his first quartet that included Mark Turner, Ben Street and Jeff Ballard was heard for the first time. In this album, Rosenwinkel proved again his originality in songs such as “Use of Light” and “Zhivago” that, inspired by the film “Doctor Zhivago”, also exemplifies his inspiration in universes beyond the sound.
Over the years, the collaboration between OJM and Rosenwinkel has been enriched with new arrangements of the guitarist songs that show new perspectives on compositions initially designed for small musical formations. Examples of this are the themes “I Need to Know”, with arrangements by Carlos Azevedo, “Déjà vu”, with Pedro Guedes arrangements, and three new arrangements also premiered in 2015: “Flute”, arranged by Ohad Talmor, “Song of our Sea”, arranged by Pedro Guedes and “Cycle Five”, arranged by Carlos Azevedo.

A Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos celebra o 2.º aniversário na Real Vinícola num concerto com Kurt Rosenwinkel dia 20, às 19h00, cumprindo as regras da Direção Geral da Saúde.
A OJM reencontra-se com um amigo de longa data para celebrar, também, 10 anos da edição do disco em conjunto, "Our Secret World", num concerto patrocinado pela Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos. No dia do concerto, a entrada na Real Vinícola tem de ser feita até meia hora antes do início do concerto.

A colaboração de Kurt Rosenwinkel com a Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos iniciou-se em 2008 e, desde então, têm sido vários os encontros em palco entre a big band e o guitarrista norte-americano, seja em Portugal, em Espanha ou nos EUA.
Referência do jazz moderno, Kurt Rosenwinkel tem um timbre singular que o distingue em todo o mundo. Com 30 anos de percurso, tem mais de 10 discos editados como líder e inúmeras participações com músicos como Brad Mehldau, Brian Blade, Joshua Redman, Chris Potter, Joe Henderson, Paul Motian e Gary Burton.

Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos returns to the United States for a one-week residency at the mythic Blue Note club, in New York, where it will share the stage with the guitar player Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Long time partners, OJM and Kurt Rosenwinkel published in 2010 Our Secret World that includes unreleased arrangements for big band by the orchestra directors Carlos Azevedo and Pedro Guedes and by the composer and saxophone player Ohad Talmor. Zhivago, Our Secret World, Secret of the Old, Turns, Use of Light, The Cloister and Path of the Heart are some of the musics that will be performed at the Blue Note club.
Another strong mark of the investment that Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos is making in the internationalisation of its music and its musicians.

Kurt Rosenwinkel will take part, as guest soloist, in the collective directed by Carlos Azevedo and Pedro Guedes, whose program consists of eight themes authored by the American guitarist, two of them unedited. The arrangements are shared by the two OJM leaders and Ohad Talmor, who has regularly collaborated with the group from Matosinhos, namely in programs with the saxophonist Lee Konitz.

With just 38 years, the American Kurt Rosenwinkel has already established reputation as a guitarist and composer. With multiple albums recorded and collaborations with great names of jazz, Rosenwinkel accepted the Orquestra Jazz de Matosinhos challenge and will join, as guest soloist, the collective directed by Carlos Azevedo and Pedro Guedes at the Oeiras Jazz Festival.
